Living Our Faith
At St. Andrew Catholic School, Jesus is the center of our life, our curriculum, and our school. Our goal is to help each child grow in his/her knowledge and love of Jesus, build strong character and moral values, and live a life of Christian service. Our students are encourage to recognize God’s presence in their everyday lives.
Every school day begins and ends with prayer. Students also pray before classes and meals and are encouraged to silently turn to God in gratitude and need throughout the day.
Religion classes are held daily in all grade levels. Our religion curriculum begins by introducing students to the gifts God has provided. As they progress through the grades, they learn more about the sacraments, prayer, ministry, Scripture, the life of Jess, and our Catholic beliefs and traditions. Students in 2nd grade prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.
The weekly school Mass provides opportunities for our students to prepare and present the readings, petitions, gifts, and music for our liturgies. Students also celebrate all Holy Days of Obligation and other special liturgies and prater services, such as Stations of the Cross during Lent, praying of the rosary, religious retreats, and more.
We understand that when you are little, you may not understand what is happening during Mass. To meet the needs of our youngest students, we offer the Prayer Buddies program, in which we partner upper class students with Pre-K4, kindergarten and first grade boys and girls. Older students act as mentors, helping younger students focus on and follow the Mass. Their special relationships continue to grow as they participate in school activities together and see each other around campus. The program benefits older students by teaching them leadership skills.
We believe that is in sharing our gifts with others that we truly show gratitude to God. Our students are encouraged to share their time, talent and treasure in service to others. They have collected food and clothing for the needy in their community, made cards and wrote letters to shut-ins and those in the military, participated in collections benefiting students in the remote mountains of our sister diocese in the Dominican Republic, and more.
